Phantom Liberty Install Size Leaks | Games Rants

Highlights

  • The Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 will increase the game’s install size to around 100GB, according to a well-known leaker. CD Projekt Red has not yet confirmed the official size.
  • The expansion will reportedly require an additional 32GB of storage space, bringing the PC version to approximately 102GB, while the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports will be around 90GB.
  • The last-generation consoles will not be able to receive the expansion due to their hardware limitations, which also contributed to the technical issues during the game’s launch.

The Phantom Liberty DLC for Cyberpunk 2077 will take the game’s total install size to the 100GB ballpark, according to a well-known leaker. The first and only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to launch at the end of September, but CD Projekt Red has yet to officially confirm its installation size.

Ahead of the RPG’s troubled 2020 launch, some gamers were surprised to learn Cyberpunk 2077’s file size only amounted to 70GB on PC, which is on the low end of what a modern open-world RPG usually warrants. And while the PS4 and PS5 ports were significantly larger than that, weighing in at well over 100GB at launch, CDPR’s continued compression efforts eventually brought all versions down to around 60GB, depending on the platform.

Phantom Liberty will require another 32GB of storage space, leaker HazzadorGamin reports. This will bring the game’s installation size on PC to approximately 102GB, while placing the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S ports in the 90GB ballpark. The last-generation consoles won’t receive the expansion due to their hardware limitations, which were already largely responsible for the fact that Cyberpunk 2077’s launch was plagued with technical issues.

Given how CDPR previously managed to compress the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game even more than their PC counterpart, it’s plausible that the console port of Phantom Liberty will be even smaller than the reported 32GB. On the other hand, there’s also a chance for it to be larger, as underlined by the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 demanded one of the biggest PS5 game file sizes for years until the developer managed to compress it by over 60% with the 1.6 patch.

The studio recently said that it revamped its development practices as part of an effort to fix its relationship with the fans in a post-Cyberpunk 2077 world. However, that overhaul was largely logistical, so while better organization and planning might help the company deliver efficiently compressed day-one games and DLC moving forward, that is not a guarantee. The developer is likely to officially confirm Phantom Liberty’s install size in the days preceding its September 26 release, based on the studio’s track record with such disclosures.

The upcoming expansion will require an SSD, which CDPR revealed back in June when it updated the system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077. While the rigs that were able to run the base game on an HDD will possibly still be able to manage Phantom Liberty, the change in the requirements means that the developer no longer offers troubleshooting support for such PCs.
