Highlights

  • Version 4.1 of Genshin Impact will introduce an expansion to Fontaine’s map, according to a new leak, adding new areas including the Fortress of Meropide and an expansion of the Opera Epiclese.
  • The leaked video reveals that players will be able to explore an underground area behind the Opera Epiclese, serving as a connecting tunnel to the upcoming Fortress of Meropide.
  • These map expansions are part of a larger plan, with rumors suggesting that Fontaine will see even more additions in future updates, including the Fontaine Research Institute and a “Dungeon” in later versions.

A leaked video from Genshin Impact has revealed a new area players will be able to explore during the Version 4.1 update, adding more to Fontaine’s pre-existing map. The HoYoverse RPG saw a major expansion to its in-game map with the release of Version 4.0 adding the game’s fifth playable region of Fontaine. Not only did the update add the Court of Fontaine and the idyllic mountains surrounding the city, Version 4.0 also introduced the game’s first explorable underwater locations. Now, one of Fontaine’s most recognizable settings is getting a new update in Version 4.1.

Genshin Impact‘s Version 4.1 update is already heavily rumored to be adding the first expansion to Fontaine’s map with its launch in September. Leaks have suggested Version 4.1 will add the Fortress of Meropide, a massive prison within Fontaine that plays host to the region’s most dangerous criminals. The Fortress is also said to be heavily linked to Fontaine’s Opera Epiclese, the main theater and courthouse within the Hydro Archon’s region. Now, the Opera Epiclese is set to receive an expansion of its own in Version 4.1.

A video shared to the Genshin Impact Leaks subreddit by leaker Himo_sino showcases one of the new additions to Fontaine’s map in Version 4.1. The update will see players able to descend through the large platform behind the Opera Epiclese into an underground area with several NPCs present. The area is reportedly set to serve as a connecting tunnel between the theater and the upcoming Fortress of Meropide. Genshin Impact‘s Version 4.1 update is currently expected to launch on September 27.

The addition to the Opera Epiclese and the Fortress of Meropide serve as just some of several map expansions reportedly planned for Fontaine. Previous leaks have suggested Fontaine will see two more additions following Version 4.1 with the Fontaine Research Institute expected for Version 4.4 and a “Dungeon” in Version 4.6. Rumors have also suggested Liyue may see a new map expansion during the Fontaine cycle, with Chenyu Vale expected to potentially arrive during Version 4.4 as well. Past regions have typically featured similarly segmented releases, adding new locations throughout their cycle.

The addition of a new area to the Opera Epiclese will likely play a major role within the story for Version 4.1. The Opera Epiclese serves as a central setting within Fontaine for much of the main story for Version 4.0, serving as the setting for Lyney and Lynette’s trial. The plaza with the opera house also plays host to the Fountain of Lucine, where players can convert their Hydro Sigils into a variety of rewards. One of Fontaine’s most iconic locations is set to become even more integral to the region with the release of Genshin Impact‘s Version 4.1 next month.

Genshin Impact is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and mobile devices. A Switch version is in development.
