Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC May Have Unexpected Upgrade | Games Rants

Highlights

  • The Teal Mask DLC for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet may bring a much-needed graphical upgrade to the games, as suggested by a recent trailer.

  • While leaks about The Teal Mask are circulating, the trailer did not specifically mention a graphical upgrade, leaving fans wondering if an upgrade is actually happening.

The next update for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet may give players a long overdue graphical update once The Teal Mask DLC arrives. Nintendo released a recent trailer for the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC on social media, and a few details in this short video may indicate that the games received a little more polish compared to the base experience.

Though the ninth generation remains the top-selling Pokemon main series entries to date, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet have been marred by performance issues since launch. Though The Pokemon Company has since apologized and released patches in an effort to improve performance, some of the changes did not sit well with players, with a growing number of Pokemon fans calling for The Pokemon Company to rethink their efforts and take more time between games in the future. Though The Pokemon Company had some internal discussions about its schedules, it remains to be seen what will come of the talks. But for the time being, players may be keen to know that their efforts to force improvements may have borne fruit.

Despite the fact that the ongoing seven-star Tera raid battle against Mewtwo is the main focus, a new YouTube trailer did not slip past keen-eyed Pokemon trainers. Recently, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet released a video on Nintendo’s main channel to promote The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC. Though the video is entirely in Japanese, some smoother graphics and steadier performance were observed in some key scenes of the trailer. The scenes that showed a little more polish included the battle against Ogerpon in The Teal Mask and the environmental panorama of The Indigo Disk, with increased anti-aliasing and smoother Pokemon animations on returning Pokemon such as Charmander and Alolan Exeggutor.

It goes without saying that these observations should be taken with a grain of salt. All footage shown in promotional material from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is subject to change before The Teal Mask is released on September 13. But given the fact that Pokemon Scarlet and Violet continued to have performance issues since launch, the trailer may come as a breath of fresh air for Pokemon fans hoping for improvements. It remains to be seen if the improvements are noticeable across the board in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, or are exclusive to areas that trainers will visit in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC.

Though leaks concerning The Teal Mask are circulating on social media, the graphical upgrade was not among the ones listed. Only time will tell if Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will continue to release performance updates going forward.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are available now for Nintendo Switch. The Teal Mask DLC launches on Wednesday, September 13.
